Exploring Active Tectonics In Taiwan

In this class, you will learn and explore the active tectonics in Taiwan and its rich culture both in a class setting as well as through a 8-day field trip. Class will meet once per week during the semester and the field trip will take place during the spring break. Topics of interest include tectonics, earthquake, volcano, landslide, orogeny, geothermal energy, and hazard mitigation. Moreover, In the weekly classes before the field trip, the instructor will introduce basic knowledge about the tectonic features in Taiwan and help students to prepare for the trip. This class will require students to read scientific literatures and some basic understanding of geophysics will be required.
